A man fell from a bridge in Kuantan, Pahang, yesterday (24 December), reportedly after an argument with his wife, whom he has been married to for over a decade.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred at Tanjung Lumpur Bridge around 2:39 PM while the couple were on their way home to Pekan after a holiday in Cherating.

The man reportedly fell from a bridge following an argument with his wife

Kuantan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ashari Abu Samah, said the man was believed to have shared his emotional stress with his wife, which sparked an argument between them, according to Sinar Harian.

He added that while on the Tanjung Lumpur Bridge, the man had suddenly stopped the car.

“During the incident, the couple were on their way home to Pekan after a holiday in Cherating. The man is believed to have expressed his emotional stress to his wife, leading to an argument before he stopped the car on the bridge,” he said.

His wife said he had struggled with mental health for two years

Ashari added that further interviews with the victim’s wife revealed he had been struggling with mental health issues for nearly two years.

“The couple has been married for almost 15 years and has five children. The victim reportedly didn’t get proper follow-up treatment and was often seen talking to himself,” he stated.

Fortunately, the man was rescued by an angler’s boat that happened to be nearby and was taken to the Marine Police Jetty for further assistance.

“He suffered a sprain on his left shoulder but is reported to be in stable condition after receiving treatment at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA),” Ashari added.
