Budget 2023 was finally tabled in Parliament by Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, last Friday (February 24). While it may have been good news to many, others have since expressed their dissatisfaction towards budget and its contents.

Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said that it was “something too good to be true” and that it was “dull and disappointing. It was full of sweet promises, as if Budget 2023 will do the economy any good”.

Much more recently, opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin has since described Budget 2023 as a blanket that is way too short.

He said, this is because of many shortcomings in terms of the approach in Budget 2023 which would determine the future of the country.

“I am somewhat sympathetic because in the state of the country’s economy which is quite worrying today, as well as the world economy, I feel that this is what caused the ‘short blanket budget’.”

“It means that if we cover our faces, our calves are out. If we cover our feet, our face is exposed. It means that many things in the budget are lacking in terms of the approach to determine our future“, said Hamzah.

The Bersatu General Secretary said that the 2023 Budget which was presented should’ve been something that could boost the country’s economic growth by opening job opportunities for the people, especially the youth, and lighten the burden of the people who are struggling with the surge in the cost of living.

Meanwhile, Hamzah hopes that Prime Minister Anwar is truly capable of being a ‘game changer’ in determining the new economic market.

“In the Prime Minister’s first speech after 24 years, we hope that he would be a game changer that is to determine a new economic market”, explained Hamzah.
