With Malaysia being the melting pot of different cultures, races and religions, we are blessed to have an enormous range of different food types.

However, in an attempt to fuse the boundary between Western delights and Asian delicacies, our eateries often try to merge ingredients that do not sound like they work well together to produce something out of the ordinary.

Recently, a post by a ramen bar in Petaling Jaya went viral for its latest addition to its menu. The ramen bar was trying something new by fusing French artisanal pastry with Japanese ramen.

In the poster shared by Ramen Bar Shishido, they announced that they will be debuting their Croissant Ramen.

“Our mission is to bring the authentic Japanese ramen experience to each and everyone of you. But this time around we are proud to introduce a one of kind collaboration bowl ??.”

“Yes you heard it Right. Noodle and Bread together. Sounds like a heavy meal is it? But don’t worry, it’s not. Croissant is a buttery flaky bread that matches our creamy tonkotsu miso soup that satisfies your Hunger,” read the caption.

“Our Croissant Ramen bowl is combination of black garlic curry soup with 2 slice of chasu, topped with brown shimenji mushrooms, beansprouts, cabbage, egg and croissant,” they explained.

The ramen bar is no stranger to innovative creations and combinations as they have previously introduced Chocolate Ramen, Matcha Ramen, Bak Kut Teh Ramen and Nasi Lemak Dry Ramen.

An odd combo

The poster has since gone viral and drawn plenty of comments from netizens who were confused by the ramen’s bar decision to compare the two dishes.

“One day you guys will throw a durian into your ramen I swear,” said a user.

On the other hand, a few netizens didn’t seem to find it odd at all and look forward to trying the combination.
