There’s a place and time to prank someone, and messing with the authorities at the police station is definitely not the brightest idea. A man in Kuching, however, thought it was funny to do so by impersonating a police officer, and the outcome might not be what he expected.

The 36-year-old suspect went to Tapah Police Station in, Kuching, Sarawak recently to “execute” his prank, and he started by introducing himself as a police officer from the Headquarters in Bukit Aman, KL.

He then stated that he was there to arrest the complainant, who is also a police personnel. Padawan district police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said that the suspect also asked about the other personnel at the station. The suspect then told the complainant to wait while he went out to grab his files from the car.

But he returned with something else that sealed his fate.

“He came back into the station with a cake, and said it was a prank,” said Abang Zainal as reported by Utusan Borneo.

Still, the suspect could’ve ended the drama there, but we guess he was too “drowned” in his own prank. The complainant’s colleague warned him about his action which has gone too far and asked if he was a real police officer.

He said yes, but this time with a different identity.

“The suspect claimed that he was an officer from Kuching district Criminal Investigation Division.”

The police personnel requested his documents and ID and found out that he was just a civilian. You know how it went. The suspect was immediately arrested for impersonating a police officer.

Abang Zainal also said that the cake was prepared by the suspect’s wife, who runs an online cake business. The cake was ordered by a customer and it was meant to be given to the complainant.

The suspect was detained at Siburan police station and has been remanded at the Kuching court.

The act of impersonating a police officer is no joke and it is an offence. According to the Malaysian National Security Council, it is an offence where if caught, you may be jailed for up to 2 years or a fine will be imposed or both.
