Mental health issues are no joke, especially considering the weight of the economy on the shoulders of us regular folks. Many of us Malaysians can barely afford the costs of getting the help we need and often times just decide to let it go and let it eat away at us from the inside.

Which is why it is amazing to see the Selangor State Government taking the initiative to bear certain costs that can allow those struggling with mental health issues to take the first steps towards getting help.

Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, took to his official Twitter page to highlight the Selangor Mental Sihat (SEHAT) initiative.

He wrote, “The State Government will bear the cost of screenings, psychiatrist consultation charges, basic psychotherapy treatment and medication for the first 2 weeks of mental health treatment. This incentive is the Selangor Mental Sihat (SEHAT) initiative with an allocation of RM222,600.”

For those who are interested and really require the help, there are 700 slots available for this initiative.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Download the SELANGKAH application in order to register for the initiative.
  • Select the Mental SEHAT tab in the main menu.
  • Participate in a series of mental health screenings.

Only if your mental health screening results are at concerning levels will you be allowed to register under ‘Subsidised Psychiatric Screening Registration‘.

There are also other features under Mental SEHAT that you can utilise such as their Mental Health Literacy Scale, SEHAT Psychoeducation Video and SEHAT Psychosocial Support Hotline.

What do you think of this amazing initiative by the Selangor State Government? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
