Times have changed, and the dangers of bad habits that our children are exposed to today may be much more terrifying than what we experienced in the past.

Just recently, the teacher who once pointed out the flaws in the country’s educational system, Cikgu Fadhli posted on his Facebook last night (January 16) and reminded parents to conduct a spot check on their children’s bags before sending them to school.

According to his Facebook status, some of the students brought cosmetic products to the school, but there is another discovery that shocked him – vapes.

“They’re only Standard 3 or 4, and they’re bringing vapes to school,” Cikgu Fadhli said.

“It’s really happening, Cikgu Fadli”

His post has gained more than 11,000 likes, and many parents have taken the opportunity to share their experiences, as some of them also practise checking their children’s bags before sending them to school.

“I check their bags every day. It’s not about trust, but a precaution. I don’t want my kids to do bad stuff without me knowing it. I will urge him to return his friend’s pencil the next day, or else I’ll cane him.”

“Saw it with my own eyes. Form 2 student vaping, and then she passed the vape to her mom. Sharing is caring I guess.”

Another netizen has since highlighted how times have changed as the kids nowadays seem to be gutsier.

“Back then, the students who smoke had to do it discreetly behind the palm trees or behind the school. But not today. They vape and smoke outside the school without an ounce of embarrassment in their school uniform.”

“My husband’s student, who is only Standard 6 brought a vape with drugs in it. Now the police are handling the matter.”

“Yes, my daughter’s a prefect, she told me a Standard 4 student brought a vape to school.”

Ibubapa tolong check beg anak-anak ya. Ada yang bawa alat mekap, ada yang bawa vape. Budak darjah 3 darjah 4 je dah bawa vape. ?

Times have really changed. Back then, we did what we could to hide our phones or cigarettes, even entertainment magazines that were prohibited. This makes us wonder, what else our children discovered out there without our knowledge? How bad is the peer influence out there?

Fellow parents, do you have this spot-check culture at home to ensure your children are not exposed to whatever they’re not supposed to?
