To learn an extra language or two never hurt. After all, Malaysia is a multi-racial country and it’ll undoubtedly ease communication a lot as well as create harmony.

Recently, a Malaysian by the name of Azril shared a video on his TikTok account that shows a Malay aunty fluently speaking in the Hokkien dialect. If you simply listen to the video without watching it, you would’ve thought the makcik is a native speaker!

Her accent and pronunciation are flawless!

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Azril revealed that the makcik does not only speak Hokkien but also Tamil, Thai and English. In total, she speaks five languages, including our national language – Bahasa Melayu!! This certainly reminds us of another aunty that went viral recently after speaking fluent Japanese to visitors at a mosque in Kuala Lumpur.

When asked, Azril said that the 90-year-old aunty is not his relative, but a friend of his mother. He also told WORLD OF BUZZ that the makcik is famous and well-known in the community in Kedah.

At the time of writing, Azril’s video has gained more than 350,000 likes and Malaysians, including the native speakers are amazed by the makcik’s ability to converse in the Hokkien dialect flawlessly.

Most of them commented and expressed their amusement towards the makcik.

“I can’t even speak Hokkien. I went to Penang the other day and an Indian spoke Hokkien with me but I couldn’t understand it. I can only speak Cantonese.”

Meanwhile, other users have highlighted how harmonious it is to see languages bringing people together.

“The best country in the world is my beloved Malaysia.”

“She’s terrific in speaking the dialect. This is the real unity. I pray that the aunty will always be healthy.”

A Tiktok user, who learnt how to read and write in Chinese in school spoke about the importance of conversing in another language to maintain fluency.

“I learnt Mandarin as an additional subject but I still can’t speak fluently as I don’t use the language. Such a waste.”

Being a multi-lingual person in Malaysia certainly eases communication with others, not to mention how it will look good on your resume. Fellow Malaysians, have you met anyone who speaks multiple languages or dialects?
