The removal or relocation of stray animals should always be done humanely and with respect to the animals in question.

Yet, not everyone has gotten the memo.

Persatuan Haiwan Malaysia – Malaysia Animal Association took to their Facebook page to report the actions of a Joint Management Body (JMB) of an apartment in Klang, as they caught stray cats around their premises and put them in tied sacks.

They wrote, “The management of catching street cats and putting them in tied sacks like this, done by a Joint Management Body (JMB) in an  apartment in Klang, Selangor, can pose a risk to cats. Overcrowded cats confined in tied sacks can suffocate to death, overheat and weaken from lack of air.”

They went on to explain that the JMB can always use common sense to manage the cats without risking their well-beings as they are a community responsibility.

“Whether the JMB can jointly try to help, in terms of a small cost, by calling any private shelter for the capture and relocation of cats or by hiring a private trapper to help manage street cats that are said to cause a nuisance so that the JMB is not associated with mistreatment or cruelty to animals that cause disposal of cats at high-risk places.”

“And can one (of the methods) avoid the anger of the residents when using a management method that can be considered cruel and uncivilised?” they added.

Should you ever encounter cases of animal cruelty, you can make a report to MyAnimalWelfare for domestic animal cases and 1-800-88-5151 for wild animal cases.

Stay tuned for more updates.
