Malaysians will always say our food is better than Singapore’s. This is true but honestly, Singapore has got some pretty amazing food as well that deserves some credit.

A bunch of foodies from Singapore recently shared with WORLD OF BUZZ their favourite places to eat. So if you’re not sure where to dine the next time you’re in our neighbouring country, check out these yummy-licious restaurants!

1. Banana Prata @ Casuarina Curry

Prata is Singapore’s version of roti canai. 26-year-old Reen swears by this prata at Casuarina Curry for anyone who loves the sweeter things in life.

“I highly recommend the banana prata if you have a sweet tooth and eat it like a dessert. It has a good portion of banana bits in it and it is topped in caramel sauce.”

And to compliment this heart-warming dish, Reen suggests a nice cup of teh tarik kurang manis. The kurang manis works to balance out the sweetness from the banana prata, of course!

Some of the signature dishes here include the cheese mushroom prata, the chicken and mutton murtabak, as well as the biryani.

Location: 136 Casuarina Road, 187 Macpherson road, and 20 Sixth Avenue 276479

Opening hours: 7am to 12am, daily

2. Ayam Penyet @ Tok Tok Indonesian Soup House

Delwin recommends anyone who loves anything spicy to try the ayam penyet at the Tok Tok Indonesian Soup House.

“Their ayam penyet and chilli damn shiok!”

Of course, being named a soup house would mean that they have a special array of soups such as the sup buntot and different types of soto.

Yes, I know this is Indonesian food, but the article never mentioned Singapore food specifically though… 😛

Operating hours: 11am to 10pm, daily

3. Lobster Roll @ Market Grill

Thiam Chye advises those who enjoy the finer things in life to order the lobster roll from Market Grill, because a bite into this delicious dish will send your taste buds reeling.

“The meat is really succulent and flavourful, and it tastes super fresh as though they JUST caught it from the sea.”

Besides that, the 40-year-old man finds the whole menu to be really nice and said that everyone will definitely find something to their liking.

Location: 208 Telok Ayer St, Singapore 068642

Operating hours: 11.30am to 2.30pm & 6pm to 10pm, Mondays to Saturdays (Closed on Sundays)

4. Roasted Pork Belly Burger @ HamBaoBao

Denise isn’t really a big eater and she loves burgers, which is why she totally recommends the roasted pork belly burger from Hambaobao.

“The Pork belly burger has got a generous portion of pork belly covered in the sweet and sour hoisin sauce while the skin of the pork is super crispy.”

For the big eaters, Denise suggests buying an extra burger. And if you don’t really like pork, then the classic beef burger is a great alternative that’s just as mouth-watering.

Rafi is a 23-year-old guy who loves his curry and for those with similar preferences, he recommends Yu Cun Claypot Curry Fish Head to satisfy your curry cravings!

“The curry fish head dish has 2 levels of spiciness to cater to the customers’ liking. I had the spicier one, it has a good kick of spiciness to it but yet also… milky?”

“The fish has been cooked in the curry for a while because when you bite into it, you can taste the curry in the meat unlike other fish head stalls where it is bland.”

Rafi also recommends the Nyonya fish head, the Chinese pak choi and the Chinese kai lan.

Location: 147 Upper Paya Lebar Road 534849

Opening hours: 11am to 11pm, daily

6. Bak Kut Teh @ Sin Heng Bak Kut Teh

19-year-old Darren is a foodie who has tried loads of good dishes in Singapore, so trust him when he says that this restaurant’s herbal bak kut teh is ‘a rare gem’ because as we all know, Singapore mostly serves the hot, peppery type.

“It is popular among insomniacs because it opens till 4am.”

“They even offer toothpicks!”

“You know when you eat bak kut teh and you get meat stuck in between your teeth? Most stalls don’t offer toothpicks, which drives me nuts trying to get rid of that pesky meat.”

Dang, everything looks really amazing! I guess it’s time to pack my bags and head down south to try them all. When are you guys making your trip to Singapore? 😉
