With more Malaysians now taking public transportation to commute to work or elsewhere, it is not strange to see trains filled with people.

Although it is impossible to get seats when crowded, it can be infuriating when seats are filled with bags instead of actual human beings.

Recently, a Malaysian took to Twitter to expose an MRT user who placed his bag on a seat whilst the train he was on was packed with passengers.

The user tagged MRT Malaysia’s official Twitter account and wrote, “What is the best way to teach this boy that seats are not meant for his bag? And despite knowing many are standing, including (the elderly) & pregnant women, he seems dumb. This was on the Pasar Seni route.”

“Why couldn’t you just talk to him?”

The MRT user’s tweet went viral but probably not for the reasons they were expecting.

Netizens slammed the user for exposing the boy and making it a big deal on social media when the issue could’ve been resolved more straightforwardly by talking directly to the boy.

“Ask him for the seat first, unless you don’t get it only then should you make a fuss about it on social media. But, did you even try,” asked a netizen.

Another user said, “Does your mouth contain gold or something that you can’t even speak for yourself… it’s something simple.”

Response to the backlash

Following the enormous amount of backlash he received, the user went on to respond by saying,

“I regret speaking using a foreign language. None of you seems to understand simple words but pretends to be know-it-alls. I never said that I was facing this situation.”

Simply attention seeking?

His response drew even more criticism as netizens wondered why he exposed the MRT user for putting his bag on a chair if he wasn’t facing the issue himself.

“If you didn’t face the situation, you shouldn’t tweet it if you’re worried about facing backlash,” said a user.

Another user said, “Then why were you so itchy to post this to humiliate someone. If you weren’t in the situation then just be quiet. Let those who are really there talk to the guy.”

Is he in the wrong for posting the picture of the MRT user?
