Just yesterday, a 20-year-old varsity student named Teh from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College in Penang committed suicide by jumping off a building from 17th floor, Kwong Wah reported.

According to the comments left by the deceased’s friends on social media, Teh’s suicide had nothing to do with his study or grades. In fact, the real reason behind his tragic death was because of cyber bullying.

Just hours ago, an article was submitted to TARUC Confessions by Teh’s friend urging the keyboard warriors who bullied Teh to attend his funeral and apologise to him.

Here’s what the post wrote:

“I believe this is not the first time you’ve heard of cyber bullying. Yesterday, my friend ended his life because of cyber bullying.”

“In the name of freedom of speech, some people anonymously use their words to hurt my friend. Ever since the emergence of the article, my friend was deeply hurt by it and he became depressed.”

The friend admitted how hard it was to detect and see changes in Teh’s emotions as he was pretty good at hiding it. However, one day, Teh confessed how he thought about committing suicide. Of course, his friends talked him out of it.

Unfortunately, that didn’t deter him from doing so a few days later.

“However, yesterday morning, the thought of taking his own life crept up again. Just like that, he left us and his family forever.

“We failed to notice anything unusual about him.

“I hope that all social media users would not abuse the keyboards in your hands that are akin to knives. By hurting people in the name of freedom of speech, do you think you will be remembered forever? I hope you know I’m talking about you.

“I know you will read this, so I hope that you will apologise on this platform. It would be even better if you could show up at his funeral and personally apologise to him.

“After reading this, I hope everyone can share this out to increase awareness regarding cyber bullying.”

Even the confession page’s admin urged the person to personally contact them.

“If you are reading this, please personally message us. We promised to keep your identity confidential. We just hope that you could apologise for the article you wrote 2 years ago.”

Many netizens also urged the person to attend the funeral and apologise to Teh and his family.

“His funeral procession will take place on 4th May. Hopefully you will be there to pay your last respect and apologise,” a netizen comment.

The damage has been done and no amount of apology can bring the victim back to life. So guys, hurling harsh words while hiding behind the screen is easy but many often forget the pain it causes to the person on the other end. It can ruin a person’s life within seconds.
