The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) yesterday stressed that a viral photo of a police officer’s family visiting him at a roadblock in Putrajaya didn’t violate any standard operating procedure (SOP) of the Movement Control Order (MCO) enforced nationwide. As reported by national news agency Bernama, Putrajaya district police chief ACP Mohd Fadzil Ali said that the family of the police officer lived in the district, with the husband attached to the Putrajaya district police headquarters (IPD).

Mohd Fadzil also clarified that investigations has been carried out against the alleged SOP violation and found that the viral photo was taken on Hari Raya (13 May 2021) at about 1pm. The photo was taken at a roadblock located at Persiaran Selatan towards Dengkil. Furthermore, the identity of those in the photo were also identified as being a Putrajaya IPD policeman who worked and lived in the Putrajaya district, his wife and three children aged 11, 10 and 5.

The Putrajaya district police chief further clarified,

“The presence of his wife and children on that day was to give moral support to the policeman, who was on duty manning the SJR in the morning of Aidilfitri, as well as giving him raya dishes. After shaking hands, the family went home immediately,”

Furthermore, Mohd Fadzil decries how the image of PDRM has been tarnished due to irresponsible people taking to social media to portray the police force as breaking MCO SOP when the incident depicted in the viral photo was in line with the SOP set out by the government. The Putrajaya IPD chief stressed that the police will not compromise any violation of MCO SOP and thanked the community for any information channeled to PDRM to ensure SOP compliance.

Fadzil then advised the public to always verify allegations first using authentic sources before sharing any information or pictures on social media.
