Amidst the sadness this pandemic season has brought upon us, it’s reassuring to know that Malaysians are still willing to stand united and help those in need.

Twitter user, Khairul Fahmi bin Ibrahim (@khairulFBI) took to Twitter to share the heartbreaking story of meeting 11-year-old Mohd Nor Atho’ullah Bin Mohd Kamil at a MAEPS quarantine centre.

“This little guy lost his dad to Covid-19. The feeling of losing someone you love and never being to hold them again? Or see them again? Please stay safe everyone! and please stay at home,” penned the netizen in a tweet that showcased the sad boy.

Feeling a deep urge to help him, Fahmi and his friend decided to start crowdfunding for the poor boy at the quarantine centre in an attempt to help his situation. “We decided to make an announcement and collected funds to help his family,” he said when contacted by World of Buzz.

Fahmi told WOB he initially saw the boy and his big brother registering their information at the arrival counter at the quarantine centre. “My friend and approached the boy and offered him a drink. He refused to take it and he looked kind of mad,” said the netizen.

“After that, he apologised because he reacted that way to us. He explained that his father just passed away before they (him and his brother) arrived at the quarantine centre.” Fahmi said he was shocked when the boy told him he lost his dad to the virus and immediately wanted to help.

In the video footage shared, Fahmi and his friends can be seen encouraging the young boy as they accompanied him around the quarantine centre with a bag to ask other patients for donations. Many patients could be seen contributing to the poor boy’s situation. Some even shared gestures of support to comfort him in this difficult time.
