Throughout the MCO, CMCO and RMCO periods, there was a lot of SOPs that Malaysians were unclear about. To address this, Defence Minister, Ismail Sabri, appeared on the TV1 programme, Bicara Naratif at 9pm tonight (18 December) to clarify matters concerning the SOPs involving the MCO, RMCO, CMCO and EMCO.

One big question that most Malaysians have is whether social activities can be carried out in the CMCO area? This question was addressed by the Minister.

During the program, regarding social activities, the host asked if the Chief of a local police station has the authority to approve permits? Ismail Sabri answered indeed the chief of a station has the authority to approve any permit to conduct a ceremony and so on.

However, he said in the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) areas, social activities such as weddings, and other ceremonies are still not allowed.

Only in Recovery Movement Control (RMCO) areas, these activities are allowed.

Additionally, Ismail Sabri also explained more about the differences between CMCO and RMCO.

Although in CMCO areas people can cross states and districts, only a maximum of 10 people are allowed for outdoor activities like sports.

While in the RMCO area, any event can be carried out as long as the prescribed SOPs are complied with.

“For a wedding ceremony to take place, they must follow the SOPs in terms of the number of guests and if they serve the food in a buffet concept, there must be a waiter who serves food.”

“But if guests have to take their own food, they should wear disposable gloves.”

“For the RMCO areas, there is no need to get police permission to arrange a wedding ceremony, only compliance with SOPs is important,” he said.
