While on duty at the Malaysia-Thailand border in Perlis, a General Operations Force (PGA) personnel was believed to have been shot dead. PGA is the light infantry arm of PDRM and are usually used for border patrols, anti-smuggling patrols, counter terrorism, and more.

A shootout had taken place between PGA members and two groups of smugglers while the Corporal was conducting intelligence tasks at the Border Wall (TS9) where another officer was also injured.

PDRM and Thai authorities are currently investigating the case and tracking down the attackers. It’s said the 5 Thai smugglers have already been caught, while they’re still on the look out for another 7 who were involved in the shootout.

As according to Bernama, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador confirmed the incident.

“Yes, I confirm this incident and am on my way there to see the condition of the PGA personnel involved,” he said.

Citizens who heard the news shared their condolences to the courageous man who was only trying to take down the smugglers and their illegal activity.

The Kementerian Dalam Negeri (KDN) took to their Facebook page to send the fallen Corporal’s family their condolences.

“The Inspector-General of Police, IG Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Abdul Hamid Bador and all members of the Royal Malaysia Police expressed their condolences to the family members of the late Corporal Baharuddin Ramli from Battalion 3 (Senoi Praaq), North Brigade, General Operations Force (PGA), who has passed away as a result of shots fired during the Op Benteng assignment for security control at the Malaysia – Thailand border, early this morning,” they wrote.

“Indeed, the departure of Corporal Baharuddin is a great loss for the team and the country,” they added.

Our sincerest condolences to the Corporal’s family and loved ones, thank you for keeping our nation safe.
