This wasn’t what we were expecting.

As many of you may know, the government recently announced that free masks would be distributed to the public via their respective city councils, as a safety measure to ensure citizens were equipped with the necessary protective gear if they needed to leave their homes. Unfortunately, some didn’t get the kind of masks they were expecting.

An infuriated citizen from Wangsa Maju was shocked to find that the masks received weren’t just poorly held together by a paper strip, but also dirty and unsanitary with black stains of an unidentified substance staining its surface.

According to Sin Chew Daily, the person who sent in the picture said all four masks were dirty and unusable. Furthermore, the masks were delivered unpackaged and placed in the citizen’s mail box which only make them more susceptible to contamination and germs.

The local resident took up his concerns with the news agency this morning (16th April), claiming that the masks being distributed were already dirty and a waste of resources as citizens would be too scared to use them if they found the protective gear in such a condition.

Most residents don’t clean their mail boxes regularly, leaving plenty of room for the spread of dirt and germs. Just by looking at the condition of the masks from the picture, it’s clear that these masks are no longer sanitary, nor can they be used. The newspaper has since reached out to the KL City Council authorities for a response.
