Calling for all art enthusiasts, if your favourite artist is Leonardo da Vinci (not Di Caprio) then you’re in for a treat!

You can skip going all the way to European countries to feast your eyes on da Vinci’s iconic paintings because starting today (15 July 2019), you can see them all at one place in Kuala Lumpur. This exhibition will last until the 15th of August 2019 and the admission is FREE OF CHARGE. It cannot get any better than this!

Based on a Facebook post by the Embassy of Italy, the entire exhibition is named “Leonardo Opera Omnia” and during the event, you’ll be able to see 17 of Leonardo’s best paintings – like the famed Mona Lisa – in digital form.

Don’t worry, they will be projected in HD so you get to see every detail of the paintings!

The post read,

“‘Leonardo Opera Omnia’ is an innovative, ambitious project aiming to share Italian cultural heritage by exhibiting ‘digital painting’: high definition, true-to-size reproductions of Leonardo’s 17 paintings, which are scattered in various locations and museums all around the world, thus allowing the visitor to see all in one place, right here in Kuala Lumpur.”

This exhibition is possible because of the cooperation between the National Art Gallery of Kuala Lumpur, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and RAI (an Italian public television). Some of the paintings that you can expect to see are mentioned below:

  • Mona Lisa
  • The Last Supper

Here’s a short video of the exhibition, Leonardo Opera Omnia, which took place in a different country:

Now, that’s not all because the Embassy of Italy just posted on their Facebook that there’s a special surprise for those visiting the exhibition, as you will get to actually see the Renaissance artist’s notes on the flight of birds, which established the idea of human flight.

38 panels will project 38 pages of Leonardo’s Codex on the flight of birds on a touch-screen monitor which will allow you to “flip through the pages of the digital Codex”. They wrote,

“The dream of human flight is lost in the mists of time, but no one has pursued it with more intensity and perseverance than Leonardo da Vinci.”

” The Codex (which is carefully kept at the Royal Library in Turin, Italy) is a small notebook which Leonardo used (in 1505-1506 ca.) to record his observations (and 67 drawings) on the flight of birds; being left-handed, and not wanting to smudge ink on the page, he wrote from right to left, in what become known as ‘Leonardo’s mirror writing’.”

Isn’t that amazing? Not only will you get to see da Vinci’s magnificent paintings but you will also get to lay eyes on the first notes that birthed to the idea of human flight.

On that note, here are some important deets that you need to know before you go to the exhibition:

  • Venue: 3A Gallery of the National Gallery (NAG)
  • Time & Date: 10am to 6pm; Everyday except for Hari Raya Aidiladha (11th August 2019)

If you’re driving to the venue, you can use this Waze direction to get there. Having said that, you don’t have to worry about securing a parking space at the venue because there’s an abundance available. Nice!

So, will you be visiting NAG to enjoy da Vinci’s paintings? Let us know in the comments below!
