Op Selamat: More Than 14,000 Road Accidents &Amp; 159 Deaths Recorded In Just 9 Days During Hari Raya Period - World Of Buzz

In the latest numbers released by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), it was revealed that about 14,793 road accidents occurred nationwide since the beginning of Op Selamat, which started on 29th May and carried on until day 2 of Hari Raya (6th June). 20,903 vehicles were also reportedly involved in these accidents.

The top three regions in the country with the highest number of accidents during this period were;

  • Selangor (4,057)
  • Johor (2,259)
  • Kuala Lumpur (1,865)

Meanwhile, 159 people across the country reportedly died due to road accidents during this period, while 49 people suffered serious injuries and another 118 suffered minor injuries.

Over 197,00 summons were also issued across Malaysia from 29th May to 6th June.

According to the New Straits Times, another worrying statistic saw a significant amount of road accidents involving motorcycles. Plus Malaysia Berhad’s (PLUS) chief operating officer Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi stated that 13 out of 18 fatalities on the highway recorded since the beginning of Op Selamat involved motorcyclists.

He was quoted as saying,

“PLUS strongly advises all motorcyclists to be extra vigilant and to ride safely, as the rate of fatalities involving motorcyclists on the highway is alarmingly high.”
