Genting Highlands has been around since the ’70s. So yeah, its been around for a really long time. It’s even older than some of us!
The main attractions of this highland resort are their casinos and theme park.
Unfortunately, their famous theme park closed down in September 2013 to make way for a brand new 20th Century Fox theme park which is reportedly still under construction.
So what else can we do there aside from gambling? Check out these fun activities aside from betting your money away!
1. Warm your soul with a hot cup of coffee in the middle of the night
There are quite a few cafes located at the top of Genting but everybody’s favourite seems to be Starbucks, probably due to its location which is open air so you can feel the cooling misty environment. Perfect for a warm drink!
Address: First World Hotel, Level T1, Lot F/L 1.4, Genting Highland
Operating Hours:
Sundays to Thursdays – 9am to 4am
Fridays and Saturdays – 9am to 5am
2. Keep your body from freezing by eating all the hot and spicy food
There are a bunch of restaurants in Genting Highlands itself, but there are more down at Gohtong Jaya too. Nothing beats consuming deliciously hot and spicy food in the cold weather.
Aside from piping hot coffee, spicy food will definitely heat up your body in the chilly weather!
3. Go to hell!
Just kidding! The temple halfway up Genting is definitely worth a visit. As for the ‘go to hell’ part, the temple features some stories of the Chinese and their beliefs of the 9 levels of hell.
Alternatively, if those gruesome statues are just too much for you to handle, then you can check out the Buddha and Kuan Yin statues at the temple. You can even climb up the pagoda and check out the spectacular view.
The pagoda is only opened from 7am to 5pm though!
4. Go for an epic concert
Multiple artists have made the Arena of Stars their stage for some of the best concerts ever. Although predominantly singers from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong rock this stadium, many artists from around the world perform there too.
Of course, concerts don’t happen everyday and tickets are often sold out earlier than the day itself. So, remember to get your tickets beforehand!
Check out their website for more information.
5. Try to spot the couples trying to ‘maksiat‘ in the cable cars
The cable cars heading up and down Genting are sometimes filled with naughty couples trying to get things on during the ride. See if you can spot them!
Also, you yourself can ride the brand new Awana Skyway too if driving up and down windy roads is just too much for you. Tickets cost RM8 per person.
Operating Hours: Daily – 7am to 12am
6. Get high clubbing in Cloud 9
If gambling ain’t your thing, then Cloud 9 is the place to be. Party ’til the late hours drinking, dancing and having a good time with your friends in this cool and colourful place.
The neon lights and intense music will truly leave you feeling high as though you’re on Cloud 9.
Location: Lower Lobby Level, Genting Grand
Operating Hours:
Tuesdays to Thursdays & Public Holidays – 5.00pm to 3.00am
Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays & Eve of Public Holidays – 5.00pm to 5.00am
Sundays – 12.00 noon to 3.00am
7. Go ghost hunting in the abandoned buildings
We definitely cannot deny how haunted Genting is. In such a secluded area surrounded by trees and dangerous cliffs, there are many cases of ghostly sightings.
Some very adventurous people have purposely made trips to this place in the middle of the night in hopes of finding something creepy to scare themselves lifeless. Why not try it yourself?
8. Shop at the brand new outlets!
The highlight for any non-gamblers would be a visit to this brand new outlet, which just opened up recently.
With amazing brands such as Coach, Braun Buffel, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Godiva and more, people are swarming the venue!
The outlet is accessible via Awana Skyway too so you don’t have to drive all the way over there.
Opening Hours: Daily – 10am to 10pm
