7 Activities Malaysians Can FINALLY Do Again Now That The MCO Is Slowly Being Lifted

It wasn’t very long ago when the Malaysian government issued the Movement Control Order (MCO) and put its citizens under self-quarantine. Sometimes, it’s still hard to believe that we were all stuck at home for three straight months and were unable to go about freely as we always do!

Being very social creatures, Malaysians need to be out there with friends and family at all the exciting places and events the country has to offer. Thankfully, in the recent days of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), the government has been lifting bans on activities that were strictly forbidden before and people are getting excited because they can once again enjoy these activities:

1. Singing, dancing and rocking out to live music performances

Perhaps one of the most disappointing things during the MCO was that live events were not allowed to happen. This meant that all concerts and music performances were off the table indefinitely and it was a sad time for music fans and festival-goers. Virtual concerts just weren’t quite the same.

Thankfully, as of 1st July, the government has allowed live events to happen and you can look forward to seeing your favourite bands and singers returning to the stage in the near future! You might want to follow event spaces like The Bee or Merdekarya, or keep an eye on your favourite artists’ social media pages, as they might announce new gigs since live events are allowed again.

2. Going on group hikes

Bukit Broga 1

One of the most common pastimes in Malaysia is going hiking with friends. It’s a great way to get some exercise and bond with those you care about or even make new friends! Also, Malaysia is a natural playground for outdoor enthusiasts thanks to the many hills and mountains that bless the land. Time to revisit popular hiking trails such as the ones at Bukit Tabur, Bukit Nanas, Bukit Gasing, Sungai Chilling, and more!

3. Sweat it out at the gym

Keeping fit while under self-quarantine is no easy task especially if you’re someone with a gym membership. You might be used to working out with equipment like a smith machine or dumbell rack which you probably don’t have at home plus, working out alone can be quite uninspiring and demotivating too.

Now that gyms are allowed to operate again, you can hit it with your buddies and get back in shape! Just be careful not to overdo it and get injured because who knows how much running and lifting you missed out on during the MCO.

4. We can watch movies at the cinema again

Beanieplex Tgv

There are a ton of movies Malaysians are looking forward to watching this year and we were afraid we might not get to see them when the MCO shut down all cinemas in the country. But they’re back in business and we can already get tickets to all the upcoming movies!

We’re pretty sure you’re all excited to see this year’s blockbusters like Mulan and Wonder Woman 1984 on the big screen with a giant box of freshly made sweet caramel popcorn and a large soft drink. Now we’re excited too!

5. You can now go out (in a group) to makan and lepak with family and friends

Friends Restaurant

Needless to say, Malaysians have a passion for food. That’s why eating out at our favourite restaurants with friends and family is an event in itself. During the CMCO however, the government set a maximum number of people per table to enforce social distancing. This was a problem for all of us who spend a lot of quality time together at a table full of food.

Now that the CMCO is slowly being lifted, the four-per-table rule is a thing of the past and we can all have more people at a table to enjoy great food and awesome company. Just remember to maintain social distancing even if you’re getting together for a group photo!

6. Get your adrenaline pumping with indoor sports

Rock Climbing

Indoor sports centres are all reopened too! Everyone can get back to playing their favourite sports with friends like taking part in a friendly badminton match or go on a thrilling rock climbing session at a climbing gym. If you’re into ice skating and bowling, Sunway Pyramid’s ice rink and bowling lanes are open too!

Aside from dry sports, swimming pools have been reopened as well! Just be sure to follow the rules and SOPs at a public pool, we’re not out of the pandemic woods yet!

7. Have a full day of excitement at a theme park

Sunway Lagoon

Since pools are allowed to open again, water parks and theme parks like Sunway Lagoon have followed suit. That’s right, you can now go scream and shout on roller coasters, zoom down giant water slides and watch exciting shows found only at theme parks!

In fact, to celebrate this reopening, Sunway City Kuala Lumpur is actually offering a special promotion–that couldn’t have come at a better time–for those who are looking for a short but massively fun getaway after being confined to their homes for too long.
