67yo Malaysian Killed After Being Impaled by Iron Rod in Freak Accident in Penang

A senior citizen lost his life after the car he was driving skidded into a construction site closed for electrical cable installation work before being impaled by an iron rod in Ayer Itam, Penang, at about 9:30 AM today (29 December).

According to a report by Harian Metro, the victim, 67-year-old Lim Soon Teik, suffered serious injuries to his face and head before being confirmed dead at the scene.

The Toyota Vios driven by the victim is believed to have entered a road that was closed for electrical cable installation before the vehicle plunged into a hole.

An iron rod reportedly pierced the victim’s car from below to a point where it penetrated the roof.

 

Firefighters were called in

Assistant Director of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Operations Division in Penang, John Sagun Francis, shared that his department received a call about the incident at 9:37 AM.

Rescue work involving a team from the Paya Terubong Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) led by Operations Commander Zurizan Mohd Yusof was carried out.

“The task of removing the victim was carried out by the rescue team before the case was handed over to the police for further action. The operation ended at 11:05 AM,” he explained.
