A 55-year-old woman who was seriously injured in a cooking gas cylinder blast in her home at Taman Sri Bayu Flats, Jalan Kampung Bukit, Bayan Lepas in Penang has sadly passed away yesterday (25 February 2023). The woman, Sarimah Abdul Rahmah died at 4.19pm in Penang Hospital in George Town, with her death confirmed by her only child, 35-year-old Hafizan Sulaiman.

As reported by The Star/BERNAMA, Hafizan shared that her mother was placed in an induced coma by the doctors on the night of the incident when she was treated for her serious injuries. The victim had suffered burns on over 60 per cent of her body following the explosion.

Hafizan said that his mother had lived with him previously but chose to move to the flat as it was nearer to her workplace. She was alone in the rented flat when she lighted up her stove to cook without realising that the tank was leaking, causing the blast.

Hafizan said that he rushed to the hospital yesterday after learning from the doctor that his mother’s condition was deteriorating. Sadly, things took a turn for the worst and Hafizan was told that his mother had died when he arrived at the hospital.

Sarimah was laid to rest at the Seberang Perai Muslim cemetery in Penang after the Isyak prayers yesterday.
