Feeling bored with the same old fare day in and day out? Are you a foodie looking for something more tantalising to try? Well, do we have news for you because the Malaysia International Gastronomy Festival (MIGF) is back once again!
MIGF brings all of Malaysia’s best restaurants together for this annual event, where each restaurant creates a special menu just for the festival that you can try throughout the month of September (1st – 30th Sept 2018). With this year’s festival featuring 27 restaurants serving up a variety of dishes, we understand that it can be a little overwhelming to know exactly what to try first
So, we decided to narrow it down by highlighting some of the most interesting dishes from restaurants featured in this year’s festival to help you guys out!
1. Amma’s crab (Aliyaa)
Widely known as one of KL’s best Sri Lankan restaurants, Aliyaa is definitely one of the restaurants we’d recommend trying out at this year’s festival. Aliyaa is certainly no stranger to MIGF, joining the festival for the fourth year in a row, and we can see why!
One dish that we’ve definitely got our eye on is Amma’s Crab. Just look at it! We can’t stop drooling!
Location: Jalan Medan Setia 2, Bukit Damansara, 50490 Kuala Lumpur
Opening hours: 12pm – 3pm & 6pm – 11pm (open 7 days a week)
2. Red Egg Dessert (gēn 根)
One thing that’s definitely caught our eye is gēn’s Red Egg dessert, which is served alongside nutmeg, mango, and mint. It looks tantalising, to say the least, and we’re loving the homage to Chinese culture in this dish! (FYI, red eggs symbolise luck and unity, and are typically served during birthdays, full moon ceremonies, and sometimes even at weddings).
Location: 68, Lebuh Presgrave, 10300 George Town, Pulau Pinang
Opening hours: 6pm – 11pm (Tuesdays – Sundays, closed on Mondays)
3. Surprising Duo (Nadodi)
Nadodi is one of KL’s newest South Indian fine dining restaurants, and they’re known for serving up some of the most innovative dishes out there.
One we’re definitely looking forward to trying out is their Surprising Duo starter. This dish is a unique combination of escargot (snails), mutton paal poriyal (delicious Sri Lankan fried mutton), egg sauce flavoured with coriander, and sea grapes, served with a side of kombucha. So, if you’re an adventurous eater looking for the ideal gastronomic adventure, this is definitely the dish to try!
Location: Lot 183 off Jalan Mayang, Kampung Baru, 50450 Kuala Lumpur
Opening hours: 6pm – 11pm (Mondays – Saturdays, closed on Sundays)
4. Whole Hokkaido Live Uni (DC Restaurant)
Always wanted to try sea urchins? D.C. Restaurant has got you covered this MIGF!
Founded by award-winning chef Darren Chin, D.C. Restaurant is definitely ambitious with their flavours and their Whole Hokkaido Live Uni (sea urchin) dish is definitely no exception. Served with fresh Osetra caviar, this is definitely one of the more decadent dishes served up at this year’s MIGF.
Location: 44, Persiaran Zaaba, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, 60000 Kuala Lumpur
Opening hours: 7pm – 12am (Tuesdays – Sundays, closed on Mondays)
5. Agnello, Melanzane E Peperone Rosso (Marini’s on 57)
Everyone knows Marini’s on 57 for its amazing fare and breathtaking view of the city, so we had to feature their dish, Agnello, Melanzane E Peperone Rosso, which was specially crafted for this festival.
The dish is a delicious combination of lamb loin, eggplant, and red capsicum, topped with flower petals for a pop of colour. This unique-looking meal will definitely satisfy all your savoury cravings!

Opening hours: 5pm – 12am (open 7 days a week)
On top of that, Taste MIGF will be happening right at the beginning of the month, where all the featured restaurants serve up bite-sized portions of their specialised dishes for everyone to try. So, if you’re eager to sample what each of these restaurants has to offer, here are the deets;
