While the world wages battle against the Covid-19 coronavirus that has practically spread to almost every major country in the world, casualties have been reported all across the epicentre of the viral outbreak, China, among medical staff. But not from the Covid-19 coronavirus, oh no. These cases of death are being reported as a result of overworking.
In another heartbreaking instance of this happening, a 36-year-old doctor had unfortunately passed away as a result of overworking, according to The Shanghaiist. The doctor, who has been identified as Dr Yuan Yangyang, passed away on February 28th 2020 at a hospital in the Henan county of Baofeng. At the time, he was serving as the hospital’s deputy leader of its virus team.
It was reported that Dr Yuan died of a heart attack, likely brought on by overworking.
Medical staff who worked with him said that he had been working non-stop for over 39 days consecutively.
Dr Yuan leaves behind two young children in the wake of his untimely passing.
The sacrifices made by frontline medical staff to ensure out safety should never be taken lightly, as we may never truly know the stress of which they put themselves through for the sake of saving lives. Rest in peace, Dr Yuan. Your contributions will never be forgotten.
