The abuser’s own father called the police on him after hearing the victim screaming for help at the top of her lungs in the wee hours of the morning. She was found “beyond recognition”.
Yesterday (4th November), a Singaporean doctor stood trial for allegedly flying into a fit of rage and brutally punching his girlfriend’s face repeatedly “with great force” while slamming her head against the wall because she expressed reluctance to have sex with him.
The abusive 35-year-old who is known as Clarence Teo Shun Jie, works as a stand-in doctor at clinics and allegedly caused grievous hurt to his now ex-girlfriend, Rachel Lim, at his Redhill flat between 2am and 4.12 am on 27th August 2017.
Ms.Lim suffered multiple facial fractures and a fractured left little finger before the door to Teo’s flat was broken down by authorities who claimed that the situation was “life-threatening” for the assault victim.
Teo confined Ms.Lim in his bedroom and prevented her from leaving on the morning of the assault. However, this isn’t the first time the scarred victim was physically manhandled by her abuser.
The pair, who initially met via dating app Coffee Meets Bagel, had been together since late February 2017. However, Ms.Lim had no idea that Teo was an alcoholic and had been diagnosed with substance abuse disorder.
In a police report the victim made in April that year, it was discovered that Teo had punched her severely on 12th March because of his anger at her past relationships.
He apologised and she forgave him the next day but the same thing happened on 30th March in his car! This time however, the abusive doctor reportedly poured a bottle of cold apple juice all over the poor woman and turned on the air-conditioner to make her shiver.
Ms.Lim, who testified in court on Monday said she went out with Teo on the night of 26th August 2017, and they only arrived back at his place in the wee hours of the morning.
According to Stomp, “the accused became enraged and turned aggressive when she expressed reluctance to have sexual intercourse with him. When she tried to leave the room to escape from him, he pursued her, forced her back into the room, and locked the door.”
“This was followed by a violent assault wherein the accused punched the victim’s face repeatedly with great force, and hit the victim’s head against the wall.”
The poor woman said, “I was screaming at the top of my voice”, but was only rescued when the Teo’s OWN FATHER called the police to alert them of the situation at 4am.
The authorities broke down the door out of desperation and found Ms.Lim’s face “badly bruised…beyond recognition.”
Teo was reportedly arrested after the incident and Ms.Lim had to be treated in Singapore General Hospital For 21 days before she recovered from the damage inflicted on her body.
Teo is possibly facing up to 10 years of jail time for his actions, and could be fined or caned as well.
Hopefully, this guy is dealt with accordingly so Ms.Lim gets the justice she deserves.
