On 8 September 2026, Monash University Malaysia, Sunway University and Taylor’s University formalised the Triple Alliance with the inaugural Triple Alliance Philharmonic Orchestra as a celebration of collaboration, creativity and shared excellence.
Held at Sunway Square Jeffrey Cheah Performing Arts Centre, the landmark musical event was graced by the presence of the Minister of Higher Education Malaysia, YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, and brought together the three universities’ communities to symbolise the partnership’s commitment to fostering meaningful connections beyond academia.
A shared vision for the future of education
Situated in Sunway City, one of the country’s leading education ecosystems, the Triple Alliance brings together more than 64,500 students and 5,657 staff across three universities, leveraging their proximity and complementary strengths to create greater opportunities for learning, research and community impact in Malaysia and beyond.
Guided by the belief that competition drives excellence and collaboration creates impact, the Triple Alliance will pursue joint initiatives across five key areas:
- Education
- Research
- Shared resources
- Student life
- And community impact
These efforts will include multidisciplinary research aligned with national and regional priorities, particularly in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, healthcare and digital innovation, alongside joint grants, collaborative programmes and industry partnerships to advance nation-building and regional development.
Sunway Group Founder and Chairman, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Sir Dr. Jeffrey Cheah KBE AO, said: “For many years, I have held a vision for Sunway City Kuala Lumpur to become a regional hub of excellence for quality education and world-class research. Minister of Higher Education Malaysia, YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir added, “The Triple Alliance between Monash University Malaysia, Sunway University and Taylor’s University serves as a new model for higher education by bringing together the strengths of institutions to create greater impact for the country and region. This approach is aligned with the Malaysia Higher Education Plan 2026–2035, which promotes collaborative networks that enable institutions to share expertise, facilities and resources.”
Working together to drive innovation in AI, Healthcare & more
Beyond research, the alliance seeks to expand opportunities for learners through cross-campus experiences, student mobility, access to facilities, collaborative entrepreneurship initiatives and innovative approaches to lifelong learning, while also enriching student life through leadership programmes, volunteerism, peer support networks and mental health initiatives.
Supported by a dedicated governance framework comprising a Governing Council and thematic working groups, the partnership is designed to translate collective ambitions into long-term, measurable outcomes and meaningful impact.
