A 28-year-old man in Kuala Lumpur is in dire need of monetary donations to help treat his severe obesity. Zhahif Bin Zainal suffers from Stage 4 kidney failure and has to seek immediate treatment from a Nephrologist specialist. What’s even more heartbreaking is that Zhahif does not even have a proper bed to sleep on, he spends most of his days lying on a plastic door that is used as a makeshift for a bed.
Thankfully, a few medical professionals have taken to social media in attempts to raise funds for Zhahif to be able to afford the medical attention he needs. One such professional is a gastroenterologist named Dr Mustafa Mohammed Taher who took to his Instagram to share Zhahif’s story.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Puan Rafeah, the assistant to Dr Mustafa, said that Zhahif lived in a Programme Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) flat at Seri Semarak with his father who was a divorced taxi driver. She said that he lived on the 14th floor of his residence and was terminated from work quite recently because the elevator stopped working.
“He usually finds it extremely difficult to climb up and down the staircase of the flat and has to stop walking every five minutes. He even had difficulty breathing when we took him to do an ultrasound check-up at the hospital,” said Puan Rafeah.
Puan Rafeah said that they have contacted University Malaya (UM) to help with Zhahif’s situation and are awaiting a response since the other general hospitals they went to are busily treating Covid-19 infected patients.
“He would have to obey a strict 2-month diet plan to help achieve the specific weight so he can undergo surgery, so hopefully, all goes well,” said Puan Rafeah.
Angkatan Muda Keadilan Setiawangsa started crowdfunding in order to purchase a proper bed for Zhahif. The queen-sized bed is to be delivered to Zhahif’s home this Saturday (26 June), said Mr Athiq, who is a member of the organisation.
The 28-year-old is currently in urgent need of donations to help fund his other medical costs and post-surgery care. While monetary help is welcomed, donations of any kind are by the public and businesses to help Zhahif are greatly appreciated. If you would like to chip in, do transfer your funds to the bank details shown above. Together, we can help Zhahif live a long and healthy life.
