A dream for many of us is to be able to eat all the food we like and still manage to keep a slim figure but alas, life just doesn’t work that way. This 21-year-old lady from Heilongjiang, China wanted to be slim, so she starved herself for three years, which eventually caused her brain tissue to deteriorate so much that it was like a 60-year-old person’s brain.

According to Apple Daily, the girl, known as Xiao Qian was 167cm tall and weighed 55kg when she was 18 years old, three years ago. However, the decision to go on a drastic dieting programme started when one of her dormitory’s counsellors made an offhand comment and said that Xiao Qian seemed to have gained weight recently.

Yet, she did not choose to lose weight in a healthy manner but instead, started to consume meal replacement drinks and other weight loss products so she could get thin quickly. She also decided to cut down on her food intake and only ate one meal a day.

Xiao Qian was happy when she began to lose weight and this encouraged her to continue with the diet. She became reluctant to eat and if she did, she would use a skipping rope to ensure that she lost the calories she gained from the food. Sometimes, she would even resort to puking the food she ate as she was unhappy that she was forced to eat. Girl, that is so bad for your body!

After three years of this crazy dieting, Xiao Qian managed to lose 30kg, which means that her weight had fallen to a mere 25kg! Of course, with such an unhealthy weight, she started experiencing many problems including developing rashes on her body, being too weak to walk, bruises forming on her body and wounds on her ankles.

Her mother was shocked when she realised her daughter’s condition was so bad and as Xiao Qian was too weak, her mother took photos of Xiao Qian and sent them to the doctor. When the doctor saw the photos, he quickly asked the mother to bring Xiao Qian to the hospital on May 27 where she was diagnosed with anorexia and severe malnutrition while her organs were not functioning well.

Unfortunately, when she was in the hospital, she accidentally fell down and this resulted in her suffering from a cerebral haemorrhage. The doctor said that due to her malnutrition where she only consumed 450 calories a day, which is only 30% of a normal person’s daily consumption, her brain tissue had degraded until it was like a 60-year-old person’s brain.

The damage to her brain caused Xiao Qian to fall into a coma for almost 40 days. Luckily, she woke up after that and suffered a total memory loss of the past three years due to her brain injury. She was eager to start eating to gain back the weight she had lost and live like a normal person again.

On August 15, the doctor visited Xiao Qian and was pleased to find that she had already gained 10kg and she excitedly told the doctor that she wanted to achieve her target weight of 60kg. The doctor said that he was surprised by her progress and that it was a miracle for her to be recovering so well.

It’s all well and good to want to have a nice figure but please do it the healthy way!
