Remember the PerantiSiswa initiative introduced under former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob which provides eligible higher learning institute students with a free tablet?
Well, the current government is planning to introduce a similar initiative to facilitate digital learning for all Malaysian schoolchildren.
Planning to provide each Malaysian school student with a tablet
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Himidi announced this recently during Teacher’s Day. The implementation is aimed to begin in phases as early as this year.
According to BERNAMA, Zahid Hamidi asserted that a tablet for each student is the aspiration of the Ministry of Education (MOE).
Stressing that the new method of learning through devices is inevitable, the Deputy Prime Minister said that despite financial constraints, the government requests that this be done immediately but in phases.
Zahid Hamidi was quoted as saying,
“The system is already in place, the pedagogical teaching methods are there, only the tablets are the constraint. So, if it can be done in phases starting this year, I think in the next 4 to 5 years, the majority will have them.”
Zahid Hamidi is confident that MOE’s budget for next year will increase
The Deputy Prime Minister then asserted that he would discuss with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on securing additional funding to purchase the devices to implement more comprehensive digital learning.
He is also confident that the MOE budget next year will increase from the RM58.7 billion allocated in 2024 because devices will be needed to implement digital learning.
