While serving the remainder of his prison sentence, former Prime Minister Najib Razak received an additional 15 years in jail after being found guilty on all charges in the 1MDB case.
Following the court’s verdict, Najib wrote an open letter to Malaysians, stating that he would continue to fight based on principle, not vengeance. In his letter, Najib—who received help from his lawyers and support from his family—said that at times, he feels like he is fighting alone.
“Sometimes, I feel like I have to fight alone. I am merely seeking the rights provided by law and what has been duly sanctioned.”
“My intentions have never changed, to contribute to the development of the country and the well-being of the people,” he wrote.
Najib emphasised that his struggle is not an attempt to evade responsibility. It is an effort to uphold justice, preserve the integrity of the Constitution, and defend the rule of law, carried out without fear or favour.
He added that he will continue to assert his rights through lawful channels, with dignity and patience, even though the path is lonely and demands great sacrifice.

Najib’s bid for home arrest was recently rejected by the High Court, and he is expected to serve the remainder of his sentence for the SRC International case at Kajang Prison.
Originally sentenced to 12 years in jail, Najib had his prison term halved.
Supporters vouch for Najib
In his post, many Malaysians continue to show support for the former Prime Minister, saying that in time, he will rise again.
“You are my PM. May Allah ease your fight and grant you victory.”

At the end of his letter, Najib urged Malaysians to assess this matter calmly and rationally, not merely from the perspective of his fate as an individual, but for the sake of the future of national institutions.
Najib will appeal the High Court’s verdict.
