If you love fishing then do take note that you will need to apply for a permit very soon! However, don’t worry because this fishing permit is only applicable to those who want to go out to the sea and fish. If you are planning to fish in rivers or any other freshwater fishing, this permit is not needed.

According to Sinchew, an official from one of the branches from the Department of Fisheries revealed that the agency is preparing the system for the above-mentioned permit which is expected to be completed within this year. It looks like this permit is only for leisure fishing and it will cost RM10 for the permit. Once the permit is approved, it is valid for one whole year so you don’t have to apply every time you plan a sea fishing trip. Doesn’t seem to be too expensive!

He also said that fishing is a healthy hobby that can be done alone or with a few friends, depending on your preference. Plus, fishing helps to stimulate the economy as well, as people who want to fish would generally travel to another place if they want to explore new fishing spots. This means that they would be spending money on food and accommodation at the place.

Besides that, he added that not every person who fishes is rich but if you are truly invested in this hobby, it is not cheap to maintain. However, he stresses that part of the purpose that the sea fishing permit was created is to ensure the sustainability of fish resources throughout Malaysia. The department also manages, supervises and regulates maritime recreational fishery activities in domestic waters.

That’s all the info we have for now but stay tuned when more details are released!
