Time and time again reports of smartphones exploding fill our screens, (and the hands of owners) with dread! Rule of thumb is to never ever use a non-authorised third-party replacement, even if it is cheaper! The temptation to save on a few bucks, can really blow up in your face. Like this lady’s phone!

A woman in Shanghai, China was forced to stop her car by the side of a busy road when her iPhone 6 exploded in her face! The incident occurred on Wednesday morning as the woman was driving on a motorway.

You can see from the video the minute the phone explodes and then bursts into flames on her dashboard! Thank goodness she wasn’t holding it!

According to Sina News, the woman’s husband said that the device was an iPhone 6 and recently had its battery changed.

He said that they took it to a local repair shop called Ji Hou Hou in February, where it was replaced with an unofficial battery. However, the shop, also known as Ho Ho Fast, is not included in the list of Apple-authorized shops in Shanghai. That would explain why the battery exploded!

While the company boasts that they have 64 technicians capable of repairing iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks, clearly this video is a testament to their ‘capabilities’.

In China, it costs about 99 yuan to replace an iPhone 6 battery. That comes up to about 59.08 ringgit! I’d rather pay that amount than risk burning off my eyebrows!

While his wife was not injured, she was “so frightened” after the incident, Jiang told Pear Video. When they took the phone back to the shop, the technicians confirmed that the reason for the explosion was indeed the battery.

They also demanded for a new iPhone 6 but have had their request denied. This issue has since been brought up with the Shanghai Consumer Association.

The couple have since gotten back the phone, but they’re too scared to use it! Who wouldn’t be right? This is a PSA guys, always make sure you go to authorized shops to get your smartphones repaired!
