When was the last time you had to wear a jacket when you were strolling around the streets of Klang Valley? The answer is probably yesterday, January 11, when the weather dipped to the lowest temperature Klang Valley has ever experienced in months.

If you’ve checked any weather apps recently then you would have realised that the temperature dropped to a cooling 22°C yesterday night. Brrr! A check on Accuweather also shows that the temperature in Cameron Highlands dipped to 14°C today, which is pretty chilly as compared to its average temperature of around 23°C.

The persistent, dense drizzle of rain that has been going on non-stop has resulted in many of us relying on our umbrellas as we go about our daily routine, on top of causing the weather to be really cooling. Of course, many Malaysians are loving the weather, which is a welcome change from the sunny, tropical climate that usually has many of us sweating buckets.

Several netizens have expressed their joy at the “sweater weather” that we are currently experiencing, including our beloved Prime Minister. He tweeted, “Wah it’s really cold in Malaysia today, like Jeddah! Alhamdulillah back home safe.” A few other Malaysians said, “Dear Malaysia. I love this kind of temperature and weather. Can every day be like this?”

However, if you are wondering whether this weather will persist or drop even lower, then well, we’ve got bad news for you. According to the Star, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said that the temperatures will NOT plunge any lower. Aww!

The reason for the low temperatures is because there is actually a north-east monsoon that’s causing the cool and wet weather. This is mainly affecting the east coast of the peninsular and based on reports, it looks like our neighbour, Singapore is experiencing some of the same weather we’ve been having and even really bad flash floods as well.

“The rainy season in the area is pushing the north-eastern wind and the clouds to the west. That is why we have seen less sun these past few days and the temperature has not risen,” MetMalaysia reported.

They predicted that the cold spell is expected to end soon, as soon as January 14 (Sunday) to be exact. That’s so fast!

Guess it’s time to fully enjoy the cooling weather while it lasts!
