If you’re under the influence of alcohol, you should not be behind the wheel under any circumstances. It’s not only selfish, but your driving will also endanger other road users.

Just recently, an X user @fiqapong, took to her account and shared her experience of allegedly being belittled by a police officer when she made a police report. The woman decided to lodge a police report after she was almost hit by a drunk driver in Ipoh who just left a restaurant. She was safe and sound, but she noticed the drunk driver hitting the divider twice before driving away.

The incident took place on Friday (October 6) around 11:19 pm.

In fear of her safety, she made a police report just to be safe. The officer’s response, however, baffled the woman.

“If he didn’t hit your car, why are you here making a report?” the police officer allegedly asked.

She was not happy at all with how the question was delivered to her as she found the police officer’s tone to be condescending.

The police’s tone and the audacity to ask such question is beyond me,” she said.

In her tweet, the woman also criticised the pub owner for allowing the drunk man to drive home in a situation where the latter was unfit to drive. The woman expressed her wish to see PDRM taking this issue seriously.

“We take this issue seriously”

It didn’t take long for PDRM in Perak to have their attention on the matter. Based on the police statement released last night (October 7), ACP Yahaya Bin Hassan, the Chief Police of Ipoh, said that his team takes the matter seriously and appreciates the woman’s feedback via her X posting.

He also assured the public that the matter is currently under investigation.

“We have reverted the matter to the Department of Integrity & Standard Compliance of Ipoh police station for further investigation.”

In the meantime, Yahaya also reminded the public NOT to come up with any speculation regarding the matter while the police investigate the matter.

Regardless, you’re on the right track by making a police report for the sake of your safety. If you’re under the influence of alcohol, don’t even think about driving or operating any heavy machinery.
