A man’s attempt to steal a RM30,000 gold chain at a jewellery shop in Paka, Dungun was recently foiled by a quick-thinking customer and staff member.
Dungun District Police Chief, Superintendent Maizura Abdul Kadir, said the 33-year-old suspect was arrested at around 12:20 PM yesterday (26 December).

According to her, CCTV footage showed the suspect entering the shop wearing a skullcap and a face mask.
“The suspect asked the shop staff to take out a gold chain, pretending he wanted to buy it. He then grabbed the jewelry and tried to flee.”
“However, the suspect’s attempt failed after the shop’s automatic door was quickly locked by an employee,” she said.

Maizura added that the suspect tried to force the door open but failed before a customer restrained him and called the police.
Suspect was using a car with a fake license plate
“The man was taken to the Dungun District Police Headquarters for further investigation. Police found that the suspect used a car with a fake license plate, which was actually registered under his uncle’s name,” she said.
She added that the suspect has been remanded for investigation under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.
