Word to all wannabe-thieves, there are cameras everywhere these days. But somehow this UberEats driver in a moment of complete stupidity forgot that the CCTV in the restaurant, where he was picking up a meal, was recording and wasn’t just a dummy deterrent.

According to STOMP, the restaurant’s owner Tiara submitted the CCTV footage that showed the criminal and now former (we are assuming) UberEats driver first coming in to pick up the order.

In the initial visit, he had seen Tiara’s phone but wasn’t able to swipe it so he returns requesting the restaurant owner to switch to a plastic bag from the original paper bag. Very cunning, indeed. Ironic that he was distracting them but was too distracted himself in the crime to notice the CCTV that seemed trained on him.

While she’s repacking, he can be seen placing the pizza box on top of her phone. By the time that she is done fulfilling the unnecessary request, he had somehow hidden her phone underneath the pizza box.

The man is clearly quite good with his hands considering that he’s balancing multiple bags containing parcels of food and a pizza box that is concealing the stolen phone and yet he somehow manages to just get out of there right before the very sharp owner realised her phone was missing. Since the incident, she has called her phone but it is turned off and the Find my iPhone app is not much help. He’s also apparently not answering his phone. We wonder if any of it was worth it now that he’s infamous on an island as small as Singapore.

He is going to be caught sooner or later as the rather amusing and fascinating video is going viral in Singapore. Somehow I get the sense that he’s no Robin Hood and Singaporeans don’t take such acts very lightly.
