Getting stuck in an elevator for 5 minutes alone is terrifying, and a pair of kids recently went viral after they were trapped in an elevator for 9 long hours!

In an official police statement, Cheras district Chief Police, Ravindar Singh said his team received a report on August 19 involving 2 missing kids, aged 10 & 11. The pair left their unit at a flat in Taman Desa Petaling, Cheras on the same day at 2 PM to buy food and didn’t return.

The family members lodged a police report and on the next day, thanks to the CCTV footage, police found both kids trapped in the elevator at level 4. The kids were safely brought out of the elevator.

Since then, some people pointed their fingers at the management of the building for the faulty elevator. However, the CCTV footage has since revealed what actually happened in the elevator seconds before it broke down.

A “slipper” caused the damage

Based on CCTV footage, the kids entered the elevator on the 9th floor and when they stopped at the 7th floor, 1 of them took off 1 of his slippers and placed it in between the doors as they were closing.

The pair fell to the ground in an attempt to pull the slipper out, which they succeeded.

Little did they know, their “playful” idea caused the elevator to stop moving.

As fear struck, the kids looked at each other while pressing the buttons to see if the elevator moved again, but to no avail.

Fortunately, the kids were safe after spending long, terrifying hours stuck in the space. You can watch the circulated CCTV footage here.

With the staggering number of cases involving missing people recently, it’s definitely concerning for the parents to see their kids “going off the radar” longer than expected. Hopefully, the kids will learn from this.
