Once a Malaysian, always a Malaysian.

Showing appreciation towards one’s culture can be done in different ways. Malaysians never fail to insert the Malaysian culture into random aspects of life, which makes it unique and so creative.

With that in mind, a TikTok went viral because this Malaysian student wore a sarong pelikat and jumped into a heap of snow.

The caption of this TikTok reads, “Can’t wait to play snow again like this. January 2021, Japan”

Being an Malaysian student in Japan, TikTok user @amalfds (Amal Firdaus) gets to experience and enjoy snow unlike us back in Malaysia.

What made this TikTok video viral was not only because they get to witness a Malaysian playing with snow, but the fact he wore sarong batik and jumped into the heap of snow without any second thoughts made it fun to watch!

Malaysians are having fun together with Amal

This TikTok has as of today (12 April 2024) received a whopping 12.1 million views with nearly 1 million likes, all being excited seeing the snow and amused by Amal’s behaviour.

Various entertaining comments were left under this TikTok, from mentioning about the sarong, to imagining if they could eat the snow.

“Tell us you’re Malaysian without telling us you’re Malaysian”

One TikTok user commented on how much fun Amal is having and continues to mention that the best part about the video is the sarong still maintains in place.

“I still don’t believe that is snow because his outfit is as if he is getting ready to go to the mosque,” said another user.

Another group of TikTok users commented on their “own version” of snow that they are able to enjoy.

“Us here in Malaysia only play with floods,” said one user.

Another user left a funny remark saying that at their house they don’t have snow, but only tudung saji (food cover).

“The only snow I’ll be able to touch are the ones in iCity”

This group of TikTok users imagine how good the ice is, similar to our local food, Ais Batu Campur (ABC) and cendol.

“Fuh! If I open the window and see this, what are you waiting for… Pour some syrup, brown sugar, condensed milk, lychee, corn, grass jelly, and some beans. And there we have it! ABC Malaysia

One TikTok user commented that one of his dreams is that if he ever encounters snow, he’s going to make cendol. It looks good because of the fine ice!

It’s all fun and games until you actually digest snow. Friendly reminder to all, please do not consume snow despite how alluring it looks. This is because behind the beauty of the white fine snow, there are micro particles of dirt that we might not see from our naked eyes.

If you were to experience snow, would you do what he did? Let us know in the comments down below.
