The past few days have been tumultuous for UMNO with the sacking of Annuar Musa as Barisan Nasional’s Secretary-General and his subsequent announcement of the collaboration between UMNO and DAP in the works.
All this was happening while the nation hit a new record-high in Covid-19 positive cases yesterday (6 January) with over 2,500 cases and Malaysians in Pahang and Johor being ravaged by devastating floods. MKT UMNO had a meeting on 6 January to take in proposals brought up by all 189 sections of UMNO throughout Malaysia.
Some of the main proposals brought by the big majority of the UMNO sections included:
- UMNO will be defending their relationship with PAS through Muafakat Nasional taking into account the joint sentiment the two parties shared during their 22-month stint as the opposition.
- UMNO will be severing their relationship with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) when they’re facing the upcoming General Election.
- UMNO is urging to hold the 15th General Election before the first quarter of 2021 ends to enable a new mandate to be handed over to the people. However, this depends on the condition of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since these proposals touch on policy questions and basic approaches that will have a major impact on the future of the party and the country, UMNO’s General Assembly will be held on 31 January 2021.
In terms of dealing with the flooding situation, UMNO has decided that they will be increasing their manpower from all states to help the flood victims. The Sayang Wanita Squad and Sabil Pemuda Squad will also be helping on a larger scale. In order to synchronise all the help for flood victims, a UMNO “Flood Handling Squad” has been formed, as headed by YB Datuk Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.
As per the hiring of Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan as the new Secretary-General of Barisan Nasional, this matter has gotten verbal approval from the Component Party Presidents and will be discussed in the next BN General Assembly.
