There are various landmarks and features that make something uniquely Malaysian. However, despite using these “obvious” hints, would people from around the world still be aware that something is from Malaysia?
A recent TikTok video has been making waves online after a UK content creator named AK stopped a woman on a street to ask her where she was from. Producing similar videos like this in the past with other random people he comes across, AK’s current experience would serve to be a unique one, as the woman he happened to stop was actually Malaysian.
In the clip posted to his page @teach.ak.some, AK asked the girl to tell him “where she is from without telling him where she is from”.
“We have the tallest twin towers in the world called the PETRONAS Twin Towers. We have a lot of races in our country, like cultures, we don’t just have one race, so it’s very diverse. We’re well known for our food as well,” said the woman in the video.
After AK asked the woman for an example of food from her country, she replied with Nasi Lemak, which AK didn’t know about. Providing him details of what the dish was about, AK was still not able to properly guess Malaysia.
AK then decided to ask the woman what celebrities are known from Malaysia, to which she said Siti Nurhaliza. Continuing not to know what country she was from, the girl then said that there are multiple tall towers across her country, such as the KL Tower and TRX Exchange.
Throwing out a few guesses, AK asked the woman if she was from the Philippines. After she said no, he guessed Dubai. Finally, the woman gave him a hint by saying that her country is close to the Philippines – with AK then guessing Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
At the end of the video, the woman finally tells AK that she is from Malaysia.
Multiple Malaysians who came across the video couldn’t believe that AK didn’t guess Malaysia when so many of the woman’s clues were obvious, especially when she mentioned the Twin Towers.
“The Twin Towers were so obvious because ‘Twin Tower’ is literally the name of it,” wrote one user.
On the other hand, some users also felt as though the girl could have given more obvious clues, such as mentioning Michelle Yeoh or Henry Golding as celebrities from Malaysia.
Nevertheless, one Malaysian commenter funnily added how she knew that the woman was Malaysian from the second she opened her mouth.

Not knowing Malaysian celebrities is forgivable, but not knowing that nasi lemak is from Malaysia? Electric chair.
