The Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of Malaysia’s pride and glory. But as much as we recognise and appreciate its prestige, it does exist as just one of the hundreds of flag across the globe. With its signature crescent, 14-point star, and red and white stripes, would this flag be one discerned by people from different countries?

A recent TikTok video has been making waves online after a popular page called Street Interviews, which follows a young lady on the streets of the UK in her pursuit of asking them random questions, asked people to name a series of flags in a short quiz.

In the clip posted to their account @streetinterviewsofficial, the host managed to speak to a young British girl and ask her to guess a few flags. As the first item on the list, the host held the Jalur Gemilang to the lady to guess. Having trouble deciding which country the flag belonged to, the woman guessed South American country, Chile.

Offering her another chance, the host told the woman that the flag belonged to a country in Asia and started with the letter M. Almost instantly does the young lady correctly guess Malaysia and move on to the subsequent flags.

After that, the girl went on to guess most of the flags correctly, including that of India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, San Marino, and Saudi Arabia, though she did not accurately name that flags of Bahrain and Somalia.

Despite pulling out a fairly impressive score and guessing the flags for multiple countries throughout the video, the comments section of the post was flooded with Malaysians who were playfully trolling the guesser, with an infinite amount of locals saying that they were from Chile.

Hi, I’m from Kelantan, Chile,” jokingly wrote one user, while another individual said he was from Malaysia, and proceeded to attach an emoji of the Chilean flag in his comment.

Nevertheless, a few users also ran along with the ongoing joke, saying that Malaysia does have many types of chilis, making her guess not entirely inaccurate.

“Malaysia does have tonnes of chili trees; cili padi, cili merah, cili hijau…” jested another user.

We may not be able to guess every flag in the world, but one thing’s for certain: Malaysians will always be proud of our Jalur Gemilang.
