Ask any Malaysian and you can bet that everyone will remember the historic happenings that took place on May 9, when Malaysia went to the polls for the 14th General Election with our seventh prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad being sworn in on May 10.

It’s no easy feat to shoulder on the responsibility of running a country properly when you are already way past retirement age but our seventh prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has certainly proved us wrong. Raja Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail also agreed with this sentiment and praised Tun Mahathir accordingly.

According to Malaysiakini, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin who was the Yang di-Pertuan Agong from 2001 to 2006 said that he got to know Tun Mahathir really well during that time. They met again for his 75th birthday celebration at Istana Arau in Arau yesterday (July 17). Tun Siti Hasmah was also present at the banquet.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said that Tun Mahathir does not break promises easily and is a man of his word. “In my opinion, the prime minister (Mahathir) will do what he says he is going to do… (for example) he said that he would step down as prime minister in 2003 and kept his word,” he said in his speech.

The Raja Perlis continued praising the prime minister, saying that he appreciated Tun Mahathir’s decision to come out of retirement so that he could save the country and plan a better future for Malaysians. “I hail Tun for volunteering to put right the things that he thinks are wrong. Thank you, Tun, for leading the country again,” he said.

As both Tun Mahathir and Tun Siti Hasmah just celebrated their birthdays last week on July 10 and July 12 respectively, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also wished them a happy birthday.

The Raja Perlis seems to think pretty highly of Tun Mahathir! What do you think of his statement?
