Three Inmates Confirmed Covid-19 Positive in Penang Prison

Three inmates placed in the same cell with a recently deceased inmate due to Covid-19 are now positive with the virus according to the Penang Remand Prison Director Mohamed Jusoh Ismail.

He added that there were 26 prisoners in the cell, and after the prison received information that the inmate who died was Covid-19 positive the remaining 25 were immediately isolated and quarantined.

“As of yesterday, 18 inmates have been found positive with Covid-19, while eight of them who were placed in the same cell were found negative of the virus.”

All 17 who are now treated at the Penang Hospital are reportedly stable.

The focus on Penang prison came following Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham’s announcement yesterday that three new cases were reported at the Remand Prison, totalling at 18 cases which includes the one deceased case on 5th October 2020.
