Beyond Running: Sunway Square Mall Brings Fitness Indoors with Mall-Miles

The initiative reinforced Sunway Square Mall’s commitment to becoming a hub for wellness, active living and community connections, while offering an alternative to outdoor fitness activities during the hazy season.

Sunway Square Mall brought a fresh approach to fitness and community engagement with Mall-Miles, an indoor fitness experience held on 24 October. Organised through Squarrel Active Club in partnership with Flow Forward Collective, the initiative transformed the mall’s retail spaces into an active fitness environment, bringing together enthusiasts who shared a passion for health, wellness and active living.

Going beyond a conventional running session, Mall-Miles featured a combination of easy running, strides and bodyweight workouts, offering participants a well-rounded fitness experience within the mall. Held from 7:15 AM to 8:30 AM, the session saw over 200 participants challenge themselves, stay active and connect with like-minded individuals in a refreshing indoor setting.

With unpredictable weather conditions and seasonal haze potentially affecting outdoor fitness routines, the initiative also highlighted how indoor retail spaces could serve as alternative environments for fitness activities. More importantly, it demonstrated how shopping malls could evolve beyond traditional retail functions to support community-driven wellness experiences.

“At Sunway Square Mall, we believe a great mall is more than just a place to shop. It is where communities come alive, connections are made, and experiences inspire better living. With Mall-Miles, we are taking this vision a step further by transforming our mall into a vibrant hub for health, fitness and active lifestyles. We want to bring people together through the energy of movement, the excitement of shared experiences and the joy of staying active. Ultimately, our ambition is to make Sunway Square Mall a place where people don’t just come to shop, but to move, connect and thrive together,” said Jason Chin, Chief Executive Officer of Sunway Malls Selangor.

Through Squarrel Active Club, Sunway Square Mall continued to explore opportunities to engage fitness enthusiasts and foster a stronger sense of community. The collaboration with Flow Forward Collective further reflected the mall’s commitment to working with fitness communities to introduce engaging and accessible wellness experiences. The next run will take place on 31 October at Sunway Velocity Mall.
