With Deepavali falling on 8 November this year, the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM) has announced an additional day off for school communities.
According to the Ministry, all states except Sarawak will get an extra day off as Deepavali falls on a Sunday.

Additional holiday for students based on state groups
For Group A states, the additional school holiday will fall on Monday (9 November). These states are:
- Kedah
- Kelantan
- Terengganu
Meanwhile, Group B states will get an additional school holiday on Tuesday (10 November), while Monday (9 November) will be a replacement public holiday for Deepavali in the relevant states:
- Johor
- Melaka
- Negeri Sembilan
- Pahang
- Perak
- Perlis
- Penang
- Sabah
- Sarawak
- Selangor
- Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
- Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan
- Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya
As for Sarawak, although Deepavali is not a public holiday there, KPM has allocated a school holiday on Monday (9 November).
