Are we still fighting against Covid-19 or have we learned to live with it?
Just as many people across the globe saw the Covid-19 vaccine as a shining ray of hope, World Health Organisation (WHO) Emergency Program Director Dr Michael Ryan warned that the Covid-19 virus is not necessarily the worst as there may be other more dangerous viruses being spread across the world.
“The next pandemic might be worse and vaccines are not a complete guarantee that an infectious disease will be completely eradicated.”
Astro Awani reported that he called for people to constantly remember those who lost their lives to Covid-19 to improve on whatever action needed to be taken.
WHO Technical Head for Covid-19, Maria Van Kerkhover said that certain countries that overcame Covid-19 are not high-income countries but instead countries that have had experience dealing with other infectious diseases before.
She added that these countries use their past trauma which encourages them to further strengthen their system thus dealing with the virus quickly. Van Kerkhover also urged the world to be better prepared for future health crises with trained health workers and to take full advantage of innovative technology.
