TW: Mentions of rape.

Many a time, people lie in order to get out of certain situations scot-free. However, this woman in Singapore took a lie too far and ended up in hot soup.

According to The Straits Times, a Singaporean woman by the name of Siti, 22, has pleaded guilty in court to giving false information to a public servant when she lied in a police report that her colleagues raped her in September 2021.

It is said that Siti filed the police report on 6 September 2021 at 3.25am, claiming that she was raped in a hotel room.

Siti initially said that she was drinking with 3 of her colleagues, M, A and H, along with a friend, Z, in the hotel room on the night of 4 September.

She was reportedly feeling tipsy after 4 glasses of whisky and dozed off on the only bed in the room. In her report, she says that after she woke up, she realised that A was raping her even when she resisted.

After passing out and waking up again, she said that H then tried to take off her shorts but she managed to fend him off by pushing him away.

Siti added that she only left the hotel room at 1am on 6 September when her aunt booked a ride home for her.

Following the report that she made, the police began investigations. However, when she was called by the police for an interview on 8 September, she admitted that she had lied to the police about being raped and that she had consensual sex with both A and H.

As for the reason for lying, she said that she wanted to leave at that time and did not have money with her, so she texted her cousin saying that the 3 men did “something” to her. In doing so, she wanted her aunt to book her a ride home, which she did.

The sentencing has been adjourned to November; an individual found guilty of giving false information to a public servant may face a jail term of up to 2 years and/or get a fine of up to 5,000 SGD (RM17,185).

Well, this case is an example of why you should never lie.
