What is your most nostalgic canteen food? Most of us probably only got to choose between fried fast food, fried rice and noodles, nasi lemak and some form of rice with dishes.

But sometimes, there would be certain schools whose lucky students would have food such as sushi and pizza.

Through a post on his Facebook page, Singapore education minister Chan Chun Sing shares the story of Wan, who returned to his alma mater to operate a canteen stall.

Noods

The popular stall at Boon Lay Secondary School, Singapore, serves up western-fusion dishes that are often a treat in public or government schools.

Some of the dishes include black pepper pasta, tom yum pasta, and Cajun chicken.

How fancy. The students there must get so excited for recess!

Wan’s journey

According to the minister, Wan, 28, pursued culinary studies and worked in fine dining restaurants after graduating from secondary school.

Wan

He first wanted to gain some experience before returning to Boon Lay Secondary to open his stall 3 years ago.

“Starting a business at 25 takes courage. With #COVID19 in the past 2 years, Wan also had to weather some challenging months when home-based learning had to kick in. But he shared that ‘things are getting back to normal’,” said the politician.

It’s been 3 years, and we hope Wan’s stall will continue to serve delicious food to the students of Boon Lay Secondary.

If only our canteens had this variety of delicious food too!
