In a recent update from Sin Chew Daily, South Korea has now recorded an insane 1,062 newly confirmed cases of Covid-19 coronavirus among its population in under one day. This figure, which was obtained on Monday (2nd March 2020), brings the total tally of confirmed coronavirus cases in South Korea to 4,212.
At this point in time, South Korea stands with the highest number of confirmed Covid-19 coronavirus cases in Asia outside of Mainland China, with over 18 deaths, the most recent victim being an 83-year-old man.
Many of the initial cases having been traced back to a religious cult native to the country, called Shincheonji. Of all the confirmed cases, 3,260 occurred in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do regions. The leader of the religious cult is currently being investigated by South Korean authorities for inadvertently causing deaths in the country due to his followers hiding their Covid-19 statuses.
As numbers continue to increase, we hope those living in South Korea take all the necessary precautions to ensure that they are not infected by the coronavirus!
