The son of a victim whose belongings were stolen at a surau in Lukut, Port Dickson yesterday (14 March) has appealed for the teenage boy who took his father’s mobile phone to be guided towards repentance and to return the stolen item.

Uthman Affan Mohd Mohidin, 26, said the mobile phone contains highly important information belonging to his father, particularly customer details related to his clothing and sports goods business, including receipts.

“I hope the suspect who committed the theft will be granted guidance to return the phone, as it contains a lot of important information. This incident has become a test for my father towards the end of the month of Ramadan.”

“I also hope the teenager will admit his mistake and return the phone. For now, we have not lodged a police report and are still hoping that the teenager will repent and realise that taking someone else’s belongings is wrong,” he told Kosmo!.

Caught on CCTV

According to Uthman Affan, his father only realised the phone was missing at about 2:40 PM after returning home from performing prayers at the neighbourhood surau.

“At the time, my father placed his mobile phone on a table at the back prayer row before making the Zuhor call to prayer. After the azan, he left the phone there until the prayers ended. When the prayers were over, he forgot to take the phone and went straight home.”

“My father rarely brings his phone to the surau, so he searched for it at home until about 2:40 PM. He then returned to the surau to look for it, and the surau caretaker informed him that he had placed the phone on the table at the back prayer row,” he added.

However, upon checking the table, the phone was no longer there. His father then reviewed closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and discovered the theft.

A one-minute-and-48-second CCTV recording showed a teenage boy, believed not to be a resident of the housing area, taking the mobile phone that had been placed near the table at the back prayer row of the surau.
